Avenged Sevenfold took over Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre on Thursday night, bringing pop-punk nostalgia and heavy metal together for the Phoenix stop of their 2026 North American tour.
The pairing of A7X and Good Charlotte mixed a lineup of two bands that came up in different corners of the rock world but who share a friendship and musical history stretching back decades. Phoenix marked the second-to-last stop of their run, just days before the tour wrapped in Los Angeles.
Good Charlotte opened the evening with a high-energy set fueled by familiar anthems, plenty of crowd participation and bursts of pyro lighting up the stage. The band leaned into the songs that have kept fans singing along for more than two decades before handing the night over to Avenged Sevenfold.
Avenged Sevenfold followed with a dramatic shift into heavier territory, commanding the stage with the massive sound and intensity that have defined their career. A lunar eclipse unfolding above the open-air amphitheatre added an appropriately eerie touch to the night.
Together, the two bands offered a collision of sounds that helped define an era of rock music, giving longtime fans plenty to revisit while proving both still know how to command a massive crowd.
