Rich Brian found his people in Phoenix this week, as his Where Is My Head? Tour landed at The Van Buren. With no opener and an early start time, fans were treated to over two hours of highlights from the Indonesian rapper as he took everyone back to the beginning of his career all while celebrating his latest album.
The stage was set with a wall of security cameras and lights as the intro to “Senja” brought Rich Brian sauntering out to a crowd cheering wildly at his return. Each song segued into the next, with his “Tokyo Drift Freestyle” and “Who That Be” getting the audience hyped up for a long set.
Beyond the props and blinding wall of LED lights, Brian was alone onstage, turning all that space into a playground as he ran, jumped and got the audience waving their hands in unison for “Slow Down Turbo”, “Oh Well” and “100 Degrees”. He even sat for a piano-driven pseudo-acoustic section for “Drive Safe” before cranking up the energy and the volume on “Glow Like Dat” and “Serpents!”.
HIs fans did their part throughout the show to shout affirmations and plenty of flirtations- especially from the men in the room- as Brian returned that cheeky energy alongside plenty of well-placed gratitude. His last visit to Phoenix was long in the rearview mirror so his devoted fans made sure to let him know that he’s welcome back anytime. The main performance ended with viral hit “Edamame” before deafening applause brought him back onstage to throw things all the way back to the beginning on “Dat $tick” and close the show properly on “Jelly Air Island”. There was plenty of hype to go around for this stop on his spring headliner and it was made abundantly clear that Rich Brian should feel free to visit as often as possible as fans released their joy from the show into the balmy spring evening.
