Show Review: The Hyperyouth Tour brings Joey Valence & Brae back to Phoenix

Arizona was ready to get rowdy on a Thursday night when Joey Valence & Brae’s Hyperyouth Tour touched down at The Van Buren. The duo brought along Detahjae to get the party started early for the Monster Energy-sponsored run.

Detahjae spent every moment of his sprint of a set quite literally running from one end of the stage to the other, all while keeping pace with his rhymes. The crowd was more than ready to shout along, starting his performance with a deafening chant of “Flare!” (also printed on his highlighter pink hoodie). With such a strong start, fans were determined to keep the energy levels just as high for the tour’s main event.

The sheet came off of the massive glittering album cover disco ball come to life in the middle of stage, closely followed by Joey Valence and Brae entering from opposite sides right into “HYPERYOUTH” and “GIVE IT TO ME”. Despite the decidedly PG-13 nature of the show, there were plenty of parents toting their young children, all of which were bouncing along to “STARTAFIGHT” and the inescapable beat of “OK”.

After finding major success online during and after the pandemic years, Valence and Brae’s live performance takes their recorded material up several notches. Their energy is unmatched and they are clearly thriving on bigger stages- all the more space to run around and let their sound fill the venue. The fans did their part, jumping on command and drowning out the guys with their singing along. The duo was all smiles from start to finish, their expressions tinged with just a hint of disbelief at the scene in front of them.

Most of the set was pulled from their latest album- with “THE PARTY SONG” and “push the pipe” in high demand- but tracks like “Napalm” and “PUNK TACTICS” got just as wild of a response as the night wound down. Of course they had more to leave on the floor, re-emerging for “THE BADDEST” and “DISCO TOMORROW”. Watching Valence and Brae glow up from their Nile Theater performance to the glittering Hyperyouth Tour extravaganza made for an unforgettable experience for fans who have been with the duo since the beginning. They’ve gotten a massive welcoming from their Arizona audience every time so their next party in the desert promises to be even crazier- and their Hooligang is already counting down the days till their return.
