Riding the high of their summer release, The Band CAMINO are back on the road for The NeverAlways Tour with almost monday and newcomer ALINA, stopping through Tempe on Tuesday night for a night full of upbeat sunshine pop.
As they tend to do while on stage, almost monday transported fans to summertime coastal California with their beachy-cool music and presence. The trio was laser focused during their live show, dropping hit after hit (not an exaggeration — “can’t slow down” reached #1 on alt radio earlier this year) as frontman Dawson Daugherty danced his way through the set. Their music will have you dancing right there with him, especially tracks like “only wanna dance with you” and the synth-soaked “jupiter,” which were both clear fan favorites.
The crowd was plenty warmed up (especially given the limited A/C in the venue) for their headliner, and The Band CAMINO was ready to deliver. With 25+ songs on the setlist, there was something for everyone from the early-days fans (“2/14”, “Told You So”) to anyone there for their first show. The band, like their tour mates, has captured the sounds of summer on NeverAlways, but rather than the fast pace of the Venice Beach boardwalk, it feels like long, lazy days.
Opening with “Daphne Blue,” CAMINO started hot with anthemic tracks before slowing things down for a mini acoustic set, as they’ve done on previous tours. They have their structure dialed in, and the acoustic portion especially works well in smaller venues. After covering Justin Bieber’s “DAISIES,” the full band returned for a sprint through selections mostly from tryhard, ending on the harmonies of “What I Want”, the fans’ favorite singalong and the perfect way to wrap up the show.
