The guys in The Click Five are ready to be in a band again, returning to a Las Vegas stage for the first time in well over a decade last week. The B Side at the House of Blues was packed with squealing millennials eager to recapture a moment of early-2000s joy- and that joy was reflected on the faces of the members in front of them.
Southern California quartet Buddha Trixie opened the show with their sunny pop-rock tunes and the added bonus of singer Daniel Cole also bashing away at the drums at the side of the stage. The group made the audience part of the set, removing that arbitrary line that separates the fans from the band onstage and the room cheered all the louder for being made part of the family for the night. They also profusely thanked The Click Five for having them on the show and getting the room thoroughly warmed up for their headlining set.
After a lengthy hiatus, The Click Five has rediscovered their passion for making music and revisiting the songs that took them around the world at the height of their career. Emerging in snazzy suits and huge grins, Kyle Patrick, Joe Guese and Ethan Mentzer caught a wave right back into the hearts of a fanbase that has missed them since 2013.
The band required a “Time Machine” for the next portion of the set, transporting fans back to pre-2010 with “Mary Jane” and an acoustic interlude that included “Don’t Let Me Go” and ‘Empty”. The fans did their part, chanting for each member of the band in turn as they observed the sold out room in delighted disbelief.
The cheering spilled onto the casino floor when Patrick stopped for just a beat to say that The Click Five is back for good. To prove it, the band jumped into a brand new song- appropriately titled “Throwback”- to reintroduce themselves and the direction they’ll be taking The Click Five into the future. The night seemed to fly by and it was time for the smash hits that propelled the band to great heights in their heyday- songs like “Pop Princess”, “Jenny” and “Flipside” still resonate with the fans who let out all their emotions while singing along.
It didn’t take long for the band to reappear for an encore so they could let everyone know they’d had a “Good Day”. Naturally the night ended with a roomful of millennials belting out “Just the Girl” as they exited into the Mandalay Bay casino content with the knowledge that The Click Five is here to stay.
