Sunday night at The Marquee belonged to Royel Otis. The Australian duo stopped in Tempe as part of their Meet Me in the Car North American tour, bringing their new album Hickey — released at the end of August — to life for a packed house.
The night opened with Bby, whose set warmed up the room with sharp energy and catchy melodies. It was a fitting start that got the crowd leaning in early.
When Royel Otis hit the stage, the vibe shifted into something brighter and more playful. The band mixed songs from Hickey with older favorites, each track landing with the easy charm that’s become their signature. The new material already felt familiar, with fans singing along and moving to the beat as if the songs had been part of the setlist for years.
From the first notes to the final chorus, the crowd was locked in. The bouncier tracks turned the floor into a dance party, while slower moments gave the room a chance to breathe before building back up again. By the end of the night, it was clear that Royel Otis had turned a Sunday in Tempe into a celebration of where they’ve been — and where they’re headed next.
