Show Review: Duckwrth and De’Wayne bring the All American Freakshow to Phoenix

Back on a headlining tour for the first time since 2022, Duckwrth is bringing the bold and fearless world of his critically acclaimed third studio album, All American F️ckBoy, to life.

He’s calling it the All American Freak Show Tour, an experience that’s a “high-voltage collision of punk, rock, hip-hop, and raw performance art.” Rounded out with direct support from DE’WAYNE and fan-chosen opener SAMNX, the tour stopped through Phoenix to give an electric performance.

Pulling largely from new album June, DE’WAYNE delivered a funky mix of rock ‘n roll and R&B that feels fresh but familiar, like he handpicked the elements from 70s-era music and made it his own. Fans sang along with “highway robbery” and “love raider” as he strutted and smoldered on stage. And beyond the drama, he says he’s being vulnerable in his music, which he’s making for “people who look like, well, you,” he said to the diverse crowd.

Vulnerability was a key theme for this show, especially when considering the source material for the headline set. Critics have called F️ckboy “intimate” and full of “raw emotions,” and Duckwrth certainly holds nothing back on stage. Whether belting out “Toxic Romantic” or zigzagging all over the stage during “Hoe Phase”, there’s a sense of pent-up energy looking for a way out. Like any good freak show, it was impossible to look away., leaving the Phoenix crowd properly satisfied with the experience.
