Gallery: Modest Mouse shelters from Arizona’s summer storms with sold out show

Arizona’s first major monsoon of the year howled into town right alongside Modest Mouse as they brought their summer headliner to a sold out crowd at The Van Buren this week. Friko joined the tour’s lineup as a bedraggled, damp audience took shelter at one of the best rock shows of the season.

Indie rock duo Friko- joined by friends to round out the live show lineup- blasted the room with a psychedelic spectrum of colors to back up their loud and dynamic set. The growing crowd certainly had their senses overwhelmed throughout the performance but the band provided a genuinely good time, got the room moving and had everyone dry and warm when it was time to surrender the stage to Modest Mouse.

Modest Mouse has always found an eager audience waiting for them each time they visit Arizona and Monday’s crowd packed themselves into The Van Buren ready to dance the night away. The band emerged looking ready to hit the links and instead launched into a powerful set that had everyone singing along with the first ringing notes from Isaac Brock’s guitar. Judging from their smiles, the band is still having the time of their lives onstage, with each passing moment of the show bringing more joy to both the guys onstage and the fans in the room.

An incredible 22 song setlist made for another amazing evening spent with Modest Mouse, leaving the damp, stormy night behind in the glow emanating from the stage. They closed out with a lengthy encore, sending fans running back out into the rain to the tune of “Spitting Venom” and another night of fabulous memories made with this legendary group.
