Gallery: Cursive brings new album to eager Crescent Ballroom audience

Fans craving live music packed Phoenix’s Crescent Ballroom this week when Cursive’s Happiness is in the Devouring Tour rolled into town. The Nebraska post-hardcore outfit is celebrating 30 years alongside their brand new album and all that nostalgia had a strong impact on their Arizona fans.

The band’s chosen setlist was a blend of old favorites and new songs from their latest album and the crowd was happy to raise their voices to all of them. Singer Tim Kasher was expressive throughout the performance and full of dry wit between songs. Fans heckled with words of affirmation and song requests, drawing smiles from the band.

Cursive performs together with an ease that comes from three decades of creative camaraderie and their natural chemistry translates beautifully onstage- whether the songs are 20 years old or brand new to both the band and the fans. The set was a walk through their discography and included “Dark Star”, “Downhill Racers” and much more. After 19 songs and plenty of banter, the band closed the night with “Botch Job” and “From the Hips” to finish out a special show filled with humor and nostalgia.
