Arizona Financial Theatre was transformed this week into Blxst’s family business when his I’ll Always Come Find You Tour stopped in Phoenix. The rapper and singer was joined by Joyce Wrice and the talent and positivity flowed through the artists and the crowd for an incredible show.
R&B queen Joyce Wrice strutted onstage, drink in hand, to start off a powerful set that had the audience dancing alongside her. She had choreography to go along with her performance and Wrice’s vocals were impressively stable alongside her dancing. After performing “Bittersweet Goodbyes”, “Chandler” and much more, she sauntered offstage to thunderous applause from a crowd now warmed up for the main act of the night.
Blxst turned the theatre’s stage into a mechanic’s shop- complete with a sparkling wall of rims, front office and a spiffy black car- and this provided the backdrop for a visually stunning show. Raising himself from that office chair, his set began with “Paper Route” and “Dance with the Devil”- two tracks that immediately had the audience singing along. His backup dancers added another element to the show in their roles as shop employees and hype people for Blxst as he paced the length of the stage.
The rest of the set was energetic and dynamic, as fans of all ages professed their appreciation for Blxst by nearly drowning him out with their own vocals. Towards the end of the night, he pulled out a killer Kendrick Lamar cover before inviting Wrice onstage to duet on “Better Off Friends”. Over 20 songs later, he re-emerged for an encore of “Chosen”- cementing his rising star in the minds of the fans lucky enough to witness this ascent.
