Show Review: beabadoobee visits Phoenix on The Powerlines Tour

Beabadoobee (and her deep love of pylons) brought The Powerlines Tour to an audience absolutely vibrating with anticipation at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre this week. The indie pop star was joined by Wisp to celebrate new music while interspersing the set with plenty of fan favorite songs.

Wisp fully lived up to the visual element of her artist name, floating onstage in a cascade of white lace to charm the growing crowd. Lit by flashing strobes, armed with a guitar and flanked by her band, Wisp made the most of every minute, starting with “Black Swan” and “Enough for You”. Those in the seats unfamiliar with Wisp were won over by the end of her performance, as she concluded a powerful set with the unreleased “Butterflies” and “Your Face”.

The amphitheatre’s stage transformed into a well-traversed highway road, flanked by both powerlines and pylons as beabadoobee’s band took their positions on either side of the road’s dividing lines. Bea herself settled right in the middle, immediately pulling magnetic focus from the first notes of “Sun Has Set” and “10:36”. The performance was a delicate balance between beabadoobee’s lilting vocals and the more rock ‘n’ roll melodies and aesthetic currently accompanying this tour- and she walked that line to perfection.

The venue was full of deeply devoted fans, many of whom came armed with signs and hopes of hearing their favorite tracks added to the night’s lengthy setlist. The viral “Coffee” was an adorable acoustic break in the middle of the set, along with “Pictures of Us” into an unreleased song aptly titled “The Road”. Beabadoobee also took several interludes to thank the fans for coming along on her musical journey, all of which has led to shows in larger and larger venues as the years have gone on. The energy throughout the night was light and mellow, with fans enjoying the cooler temperatures and a setlist that continued for 25 songs before beabadoobee and her crew returned to give the crowd even more. Fans could be seen jumping with delight and smiling ear to ear as they exited the venue after a beautiful night under the stars with beabadoobee.
