The final day of Shaky Knees began much like the previous days- a slightly overcast sky accompanied intense humidity and the threat of rain kept attendees on edge after Saturday’s flash flood. This time, however, the weather held firm and the last day of a turbulent weekend went off with very few hiccups. Throwback Acts Dominate the Afternoon
Fans put on their best boots to narrowly avoid the field’s muddy patches and braved some serious midafternoon heat to sweat it out starting with Coheed and Cambria. The well-established rock group played right into the sun as their devotees sweated it out at the Peachtree Stage. Claudio Sanchez’s unmistakable vocals (and flowing curls) could be heard across the field as more people gravitated towards the stage for a magnetic start to the afternoon.
Aussie group Jet made the journey to Atlanta to rock the Piedmont Stage for an eager audience. From the kickoff (“Last Chance”) to the closer (“Rip It Up”) and the “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” of it all in the middle, the band had their crowd bouncing along to every song. Those making the journey across the field encountered Ok Go in the corner on their way to American Hi-Fi at the Criminal Records stage- both bands chopping it up with early 2000s classics that let the fans dance their way through the hottest part of the day.
Hip Hop Heavyweights Continue Fall Tour
Sunday was all about hip hop, hardcore and dancing yourself clean and the rap connoisseurs in the audience got to hear the classics in the form of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Wu-Tang Clan back to back. These groups are out on the road this fall and they gave the Shaky Knees crowd a taste of what to expect when they team up. The pulsing beats that defined 90’s hip hop echoed across the park as countless fans put their hands up in unison to bounce along. From “Thuggish Ruggish Bone” to “1st of Tha Month”, Bone Thugs had their audience in the palm of their collective hand for a full hour of old school hip hop.
The members of Wu-Tang clan emerged one by one, drawing huge cheers from their waiting fans as an entire field of people put up the W to welcome them to the stage. RZA started with a profound spoken word-esque intro that slowly introduced the rest of the group right into “Bring Da Ruckus” and “Clan in Da Front”. By the time the set reached “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing ta F’Wit” and “C.R.E.A.M”, the audience was fully on their feet and rapping along as the hip hop legends reminded Shaky Knees they never left.
Wall of Death Weekend Sendoff
While plenty of fans were parked at the Peachtree Stage for Gorillaz, the hardcore enthusiasts trekked to Ponce de Leon for Knocked Loose’s headlining stage. They were up against LCD Soundsystem’s dance pop energy- and sounds that would never be heard over the band’s intense performance. Singer Bryan Harris whipped their crowd into a frenzy of mosh pits and crowd surfers while also expressing gratitude and shock at playing the same stage as Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Like their show the night before, Knocked Loose played a tight set backed by their illuminated cross and a wall of pulsing lights that grabbed attention from all the way at the back of the field. As their night came to a close, the band called for one last wall of death and the fans braved the mud to jump right in for “Everything is Quiet Now”.
The 2026 edition of Shaky Knees had quite a few shaky moments but the weekend was a rousing success overall. Sunday’s enthusiasm more than made up for the brief Saturday heartbreak and fans left Piedmont Park already looking forward to the next installment of this well-established festival.
