It takes a special band to pull several hundred people into the Nile Underground in the middle of August but that’s exactly what happened when Dogma Society brought their headlining tour to Arizona last week. The Utah quintet packed the venue’s basement, going toe to toe with the upstairs Emo Nite as dedicated fans worked up a sweat in the mosh pit.
The room was already visibly steaming when the band walked onstage, promptly getting the audience moving to “Blind by Your Caress” and “Broken Halo”. With the ceilings too low to crowd surf, the fans made due by turning the center of the floor into a mass of flailing limbs that kept the closely packed front row on their toes. The band contributed to the chaos, throwing their own bodies into the performance and keeping the energy untethered for “Mute” and “Get Away”.
This was Dogma Society’s first headlining foray into Phoenix and their fans showed up and showed out on a Saturday night- and that delight was reflected on the faces of everyone in the band as they spoke to the crowd between songs (but not for long, there was noise to be made). The end of the set had the crowd crouched in anticipation for the final group jump of the night as Dogma Society brought the evening to a close with “Promiseland” and “Fangs”. The entire performance was executed to perfection and solidified the band’s well-deserved and growing fanbase- if the line to meet them after the show was any indication, Arizona will be impatiently awaiting their return on the next tour.
