Show Review: Joey Valence & Brae bring the Hyperyouth Tour to second sold out Amsterdam stop

The Hyperyouth Tour steamrolled right into Amsterdam last week for a sold out show at Paradiso as the city showed out for Joey Valence & Brae’s second date in the city. The church-turned-venue was very literally packed to the rafters with eager fans as both the duo and the crowd expended every ounce of their energy on a wild performance. The mosh pit was a teeming mass of bodies, frozen in chaotic motion against the building’s classic architecture- a modern Renaissance painting that perfectly captured the essence of the Hyperyouth era.

As JVB bounded onstage to “GIVE IT TO ME” and “HOOLIGANG”, the room started moving and simply never stopped. The sweat rising from the crowd was reflected on the duo’s faces as the Amsterdam audience fought against the humidity to keep the party going during “STARTAFIGHT” (opening up the first pit of the night) and “WASSUP”.

The floor was also kept busy holding up a plethora of crowd surfers, all of whom took several turns around the room before Valence and Brae laughingly encouraged them to make their way to the front so security could catch them and send them back into the throng. The audience fully became part of the show, jumping on command, recording songs on everything from handheld camcorders to the odd Nintendo DS spotted on the barricade. However, most fans stowed their phones to throw themselves into the performance, dancing with abandon as the guys threw in a cover of Amyl and the Sniffers’ “Security” right before “NAPALM” and a “PUNK TACTICS” closer.

It was still early and the Hooligang was not ready to relinquish Valence and Brae- their nonstop chanting and cheering brought them right back onstage to really shut things down with “THE BADDEST” and “DISCO TOMORROW”. They rolled into Amsterdam with the sole purpose of throwing the biggest and best party in the city- and a very sweaty and satisfied audience spilled into the rain-soaked streets thrilled that JVB made a second stop in the city.
