Show Review: John Summit throws lively Waste Management Open afterparty

After a long day of drinking in the sun at Scottsdale’s Waste Management Open golf tournament, most people would call it quits- but John Summit and his fans aren’t most people. Instead, they migrate to the afters at the Coors Light Bird’s Nest, and there’s nobody better to keep the bender going. Summit is full of energy, and it’s infectious whether you’re at the barricade or in the far corners of the venue. Even better: he fully committed to the bit with a golf glove and visor accessorizing his sport-appropriate outfit.

Opening with new track “LIGHTS GO OUT”, Summit set the tone for a lively show, and snippets from the music video (John Summit is bringing real, artist-driven music videos back, by the way) flashed on screen behind the stage. The single is from upcoming release CTRL ESCAPE and leans into trap and bass elements that give his signature tech house extra oomph.

From there, the mix flowed from beloved entries in Summit’s catalog (“Where You Are,” “Go Back,” “Sweet Disposition,” etc.) to other Experts Only artists to of-the-moment snippets that elicited roars from the crowd. It was an eclectic set for an eclectic audience ranging from college kids to company-box corporate types in the VIP sections — and everyone was having fun.

It’s hard not to have a blast when the artist on stage is so clearly loving every minute. (Lasers, pyro, and smoke effects can’t hurt, either.) In Waste Management Open terms, Summit was a hole in one to cap off the weekend.
