Date night got a little more sultry with the Valentine’s Super Love Jam at Mortgage Matchup Center last week. Saturday night was steamy for hundreds of couples as they packed the arena to sway and sing along with the likes of Zapp, Blackstreet and so much more.
Blackstreet graced the arena’s stage late into the evening, performing a perfectly synchronized set of all their classic hits. The quartet emerged in coordinating red outfits- appropriate for the holiday of love- and whipped the audience into a frenzy with their velvety smooth vocals on songs like “Joy”, “Don’t Leave Me” and more. The highlight of the set found Chauncey “Black” Hannibal weaving through the crowd during “Mr. Who Wants a Rose” while the group tossed fresh roses into the eager hands of the women crowding along the barricade. The group also celebrated “No Diggity” crossing the billion streams milestone to conclude a set that was a party from start to finish.
The Super Love Jam reached the end of a long night with the reformed Zapp entering the arena in lockstep, showing off their signature funky style. The group had everything from talk-box vocal effects, light up suits and guitars, a plethora of spangled outfits and the infectiously catchy beats to back them up. The audience was certainly tired but Zapp’s energy brought them right back to life to end a very special Valentine’s Day celebration by taking everyone back in time for the evening and filling the room with more than enough love to go around.
