The party this week was at Arizona Financial Theatre when Jagged Edge’s Cuffing Season Tour landed in Phoenix. The Atlanta R&B group had the room packed and ready to groove with their setlist of throwback hits and a great opening lineup to start the show.
In case you haven’t been paying attention, we’re in the middle of the Lloyd renaissance. With over 20 years in the game and five albums to choose from, Lloyd began his set in the crowd, handing out dazzling smiles and high fives to everyone showing him love. As he made his way onstage, the lights flashed on his accessories and lit up his plush plum suit and the performance began in earnest. He showed off his smooth moves during “You” while the band held it down for “Player’s Prayer” and “Tru”. Lloyd even dropped in his chorus from Young Money’s smash hit “Bedrock” before giving the people exactly what they wanted- “Get It Shawty” and the recently viral “Lay It Down”. His performance was musical excellence from start to finish with his dance moves, guitar skills and heartfelt words of gratitude lighting up the room almost as brightly as his smile.
Jagged Edge brought their own theatrics to the theatre’s stage, emerging in pairs at the top of platforms and surrounded by dancers shimmering in sequins from head to toe. The quartet knows exactly when to bring the energy and when to slow things down to get the room grooving and swaying- and there was plenty of both throughout the show. Their harmonies were in perfect sync and they even pulled out some choreography while their legion of dancers whirled behind them for “Let’s Get Married”, “Promise” and much more. Arizona showed up in force for this group and gave it their all for “Where the Party At”- the answer, it turns out, was right here in Phoenix all along.
