While Arizona can sometimes be overlooked in the K-pop touring market, that was not the case for EVNNE when they brought their very first North American headliner to Phoenix this week. The seven member group- Seungeon, Jeonghyeon, Keita, Hanbin, Junghyun, Jihoo and Yunseo- had their third stop of the Set N Go tour at the Madison Center for the Arts, performing to a crowd of dedicated ENNVE on Sunday night.
Many fans had been lined up for hours for the chance to get as close to the auditorium’s intimate stage as possible but their energy and excitement was off the charts when the lights went down and the group was introduced to the room. They jumped right into “Ugly” before putting their debut track “Trouble” at the beginning of the setlist- the perfect way to showcase their journey in such a short amount of time.
The members performed as a seamless unit, landing complicated choreography with ease and giving each member the chance to shine both vocally and with their dance moves. They took plenty of opportunities to speak directly to the fans, keeping them hyped up between songs like “Pretty Thing” and “Jukebox”.
While it wasn’t a full house, the audience made it feel like one, giving the group copious amounts of love and support throughout the set. EVNNE is only two years into their career and the joy they get from performing is evident on each member’s face- as is the shock that their music has taken them all the way to the United States. For the fans, getting to be so close to a group that they love was the perfect way to kick off their week.
After 18 incredible songs, the group closed out the main set with “Even More” before coming back for an encore that got everyone jumping to “Festa” and “Newest”. These seven guys are carving their own space in the K-pop world and their music clearly resonates with fans looking for a new group to love and support. The performance ended on a joyful note and the desire from both sides to see EVNNE back in the States as soon as possible.
