Countless incredible musicians gathered in beautiful Saint Paul last weekend at the second annual Minnesota Yacht Club Festival. With the Mississippi River serving as the backdrop, artists also became fans, cheering on their colleagues and making new friends along the way. Atlas threw some rapid-fire questions at a few of our favorites on this year’s lineup for some fun moments between the chaos.
If you had a yacht, what would you name it?
Mike Kota: Something womanly, girl-coded. Maybe something related to King Krule- Krule Vessel or something.
Raffaella: Slut.
Grace Bowers: GraSEA Bowers.
Winona Fighter: Bev Pastrami. Or I was thinking John Beluga.
Out of everyone on this lineup, who would you want on your yachting team?
Mike Kota: Probably all the women. I feel like women get shit done. Gigi, Sheryl, let’s go!
Raffaella: Weezer. They seem smart and funny and I would like the people on my team to be smart and funny.
Grace Bowers: Green Day because I want to hang out with them.
Winona Fighter: The Beaches!
Who are you looking forward to seeing this weekend?
Mike Kota: Obviously Gigi, Hozier, Alabama Shakes- Brittany Howard is amazing. Train, also. Honestly everybody- I am not disappointed at all by this lineup.
Raffaella: I got to see Father John Misty yesterday which was amazing, he’s sort of larger than life so I felt like I could feel really inspired and exhilarated for the first time in a while. Today I’m really excited to see Remi Wolf and Weezer. Fall Out Boy is going to be super fun.
Grace Bowers: I would say Sublime and Green Day and Garbage.
Winona Fighter: The Beaches for sure. Garbage, never seen Green Day so really excited for that.
After playing this festival, what else is coming up that you’re super excited about?
Mike Kota: EP release show and then towards the end of the year we’re going back in the studio and getting my band on an album recording.
Raffaella: My wedding. But other than that, I guess my album. Me and my fiance made this album together with Henry, who plays bass in my band, and it’s cool how they’re coinciding.
Grace Bowers: We’re going to go to Japan in a week or two so that’ll be really cool. And then just been working on some new music that we’re playing for the first time at this festival.
Winona Fighter: We have three days off and then we’re doing a one-off show with Dexter and the Moonrocks and then we just have a lot of one-offs for the rest of the year and Warped Tour!
