It was absolutely a great day to tour again and that meant that rock icon Billy Idol was back onstage to kick off the latest leg of this headlining tour at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre this week. Armed with his stellar band and a mountain of mind blowing production, Idol proved that he’s still got all the swagger he’s been famous for over his decades-long career.
Fans of all ages made a night of the event on Wednesday, armed with vintage merch and ready to dance to Idol’s plethora of hits. From the kickoff number of “Still Dancing” right into “Cradle of Love”, Idol held nothing back through this exploration of his discography. Guitarist Steven Stevens also took the spotlight on multiple occasions, shredding through solo after solo and backing Idol with the ease that comes with such a long friendship and musical partnership.
The crowd was on their feet as the show went on, singing along to “Dream Into It” and the final “Rebel Yell”. Idol is not one to keep his adoring public waiting and he returned promptly for a rousing encore that included “Hot in the City” and the growling familiarity of “White Wedding” (with more than a few wedding veils spotted in the audience). For many fans, seeing Idol live is a reminiscent experience of tours long past but he was quick to remind the crowd that there’s still plenty more to come in the future- there will undoubtedly be another great day to tour again.
