Gallery: Night Cap launch West Coast tour with convivial Phoenix show

“I’ve seen them, like, a hundred times,” a fan assured me before Night Cap’s headlining set at Valley Bar in downtown Phoenix on Monday night. “They’re my favorite Austin band.” High praise for one of the live music hotspots of the U.S., and the group certainly delivered.

The simply titled West Coast Tour also features Pretty Jane, a Nashville-based alt pop trio with 70s flair. Their onstage antics included a Facetime to the muse for “Elmira” and crowd surfing as the band sang “Happy Birthday” to a fan.

Night Cap, meanwhile, kept their set pretty straightforward: plenty of unreleased material, previews from an album to be released later this year, and some crowd favorites like “Sentimental” and “Glimpse”. And the atmosphere — like the whole group chat had gathered to go support their friends — felt homey and familiar. No better way to kick off a week.
