Show Review: Ice Spice’s Y2K! World Tour turned Tempe all the way up at Marquee Theatre

The early 2000s aesthetic is back in a big way, and Ice Spice is riding the wave with her Y2K! World Tour that stopped through Tempe on Friday night.

As is tradition, Ice brought her entourage along for the ride, including direct support Cash Cobain and RIOTUSA manning the DJ booth to welcome early arrivals. The bumping bass shook the building, and one thing was clear: the people showed up to shake ass. Both Cash Cobain and Ice Spice brought fans on stage to twerk — the latter to “GYAT,” appropriately — and the dance troupe led the charge.

Besides the cutesy MySpace-style onscreen graphics, the arrival of Ice Spice was announced by a synchronized raise of every phone in the venue. Hundreds of screens glowed throughout the entirety of the show, even as the hype men got the crowd jumping during “Bitch I’m Packin’”. Was everyone solely there to create TikToks? One could make that argument.

Hits like “Princess Diana”, “Barbie World”, and “Boy’s a liar Pt 2” were highlights of the set, but the fans were hyped on just about every single song. (Makes sense when tickets started at $90 before fees.) So, it was no surprise when closer “Think U the Shit (Fart)” went over massively well with the young crowd. Hundreds of fans screaming the lyrics — “Think you’re the shit, bitch…you not even the fart” — was a fitting way to end the show.
