Show Review: 311’s Unity Tour brings multiple generations of rock to Phoenix

The Unity Tour featuring 311, AWOLNATION, and Neon Trees stopped through Phoenix’s Arizona Financial Theatre, delivering a night of nostalgic hits and electric performances.

Neon Trees kicked off the night with an energetic set, diving into fan favorites like “Animal” and “Sleeping With a Friend.” Frontman Tyler Glenn commanded the stage, strutting with confidence and belting out lyrics that sounded as fresh as they did when the band first burst onto the scene nearly 20 years ago.

AWOLNATION kept the momentum going, unleashing an explosive performance that, naturally, included their megahits “Sail” and “Run,” the latter enjoying a recent resurgence on TikTok. Aaron Bruno was a force of nature, channeling manic energy that seemed barely containable as he climbed onto an elevated platform, arms spread wide in a gesture that felt like a wild embrace of the packed theater.

By the time 311 took the stage for their 23-song setlist, the crowd was more than ready. The band, seasoned pros at this point, sounded tight and polished, yet still let it rip for the live show. Surprisingly, half the fans in the front row were Gen Z or younger, but the diverse crowd welcomed the headliners with a proper Saturday night enthusiasm.

Despite a brief hiccup with some technical difficulties, 311 powered through, delivering a performance that showcased the depth of their decades-spanning catalog and highlighted the individual talents of each band member.

It was a night where the past and present collided, proving that great music has no expiration date.
