Metal fans packed Phoenix’s Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre on Thursday night for Megadeth’s Destroy All Enemies tour, despite the muggy air and the incoming storm. Warning bolts of lightning flashed in the distance, and incoming attendees battled high winds during the opening sets by All That Remains and Mudvayne.
But in the end, it was Megadeth — not the monsoon — that brought the real thunder to the show. Dave Mustaine and his bandmates thrashed through a curated 16-song setlist that spanned their catalog (including a tour debut of “This Was My Life”) as the awestruck crowd got plenty rowdy. The show had it all: over-the-top makeup, headbanging fans, growling men, heavy riffs, and legends from the genre. Let’s do it again, same time next week?
