Show Review: SeeYouSpaceCoyboy curates perfect lineup for Coup de Grâce Tour

The Nile Theater in Mesa had two heavy shows blasting simultaneously on Tuesday, shaking both the floor and the ceiling. The Coup de Grâce Tour, featuring SeeYouSpaceCowboy, The Callous Daoboys and more, landed in the upstairs room for a night of two-stepping, moshing and all around good vibes.

Omertà has been an Atlas obsession since they melted faces at So What?! Music Festival in 2023 and there was excitement in the room as the group took the stage. The band could be considered metal at a base level, but with their plethora of influences shining through on every song, it’s difficult to put them into any boxes. The quartet sprinted through songs from their EP, Hyperviolence, and threw in their eccentric new single “Charade” as well. The set was unbridled chaos, allowing the crowd to let loose early in the night and getting the room properly sweaty for the rest of the lineup.

The Callous Daoboys have visited Arizona many times in the last year and their crowds love coming back for more. While they certainly take their craft seriously, the band puts an element of goofy, lighthearted fun back into traditional hardcore and their song titles reflect that. From “Violent Astrology” to “Blackberry DeLorean”, the Daoboys put on one ripper of a set despite the rising temperatures in the upstairs room. Their backdrop made a satirical stab at listening to “real music” and the fans in the room had nothing but a good time.

SeeYouSpaceCowboy recently released their newest album and this tour is a celebration of that new music and a retirement of some older tracks. Singer Connie Sgarbossa stomped onstage with the rest of the band decked out in matching suits and took the show to another level with the collective energy from the band and the crowd. The first notes opened up the middle of the room and the pit ebbed and flowed through “Red Wine and Discontent” and “Silhouettes in Motion”.

Sgarbossa also announced that this would be the last tour that “Late December” would be on the setlist, so fans made sure to give that song their full attention, soaking in those final moments. SYSC has rocked the big room on various occasions and this perfectly curated lineup solidified their place as headliners on The Nile’s stage. The band had Omertà lead singer Gustavo Hernandez hop up for a song and even featured their photographer on vocals for a blink and you miss it moment.

The night closed out with “Chewing the Scenery” before the band returned for a quick encore to end the first night of this extensive tour. If the energy is anything like what Arizona received on night one, the rest of the country is in for a huge treat this summer from a stellar collection of bands.
