The Marías just embarked on their Submarine Tour, named after the album they released earlier this year, and stopped in Phoenix on Saturday night to bring their stunning visuals to the Arizona Financial Theatre.
The group — lead vocalist María Zardoya, drummer/producer Josh Conway, guitarist Jesse Perlman, and keyboardist Edward James — blends an ethereal, psychedelic pop with a touch of jazz and indie rock. And Zardoya switches between English and Spanish as she sings. As such, the lights and stage setup make viewers feel like they’re underwater, adding to the out-of-body experience.
