Show Review: Offset turns up the heat with Set It Off Tour in Phoenix

It was a hip hop takeover on Wednesday night when Offset’s Set It Off Tour landed at The Van Buren in Phoenix. Fans crushed up against the barricade for the best view of the rapper’s production and gave plenty of love to his chosen openers as well.

The night began with the hype energy brought by Mango Foo, SleazyWorld Go and Skilla Baby. Each rapper had their own unique flow and wanted to get up close and personal with the crowd- so they all left the stage and spent much of their time balanced on the barricade. Mango Foo ended up in the middle of the pit, surrounded by fans shouting his lyrics and illuminating the floor with the phone lights.

SleazyWorld Go balanced his earth-toned outfit with a massive jeweled chain shaped like a gun and shades that never came off despite the darkness of the venue. He also came down to the barricade to party with the fans and kept the energy high before Skilla Baby’s set.

Skilla Baby is fairly new in the rap world but his talent has already caught the attention of his peers and resonated with his audience. His stage presence is intense and he stared down the crowd, slowly removing his jacket, chain and even kicked off his shoes before finally launching himself into the middle of the pit. The crowd was more than happy to hold him up before setting him on the floor to jump alongside him.

After a slight delay, Offset’s stage emerged from behind a curtain and he strutted down the makeshift stairs to huge cheers. The stage was built into sections that held a full live band, a DJ and dancers that joined him at various intervals throughout the lengthy set. He started things off with his own material before jumping into several of his notable features and a few covers for good measure.

Naturally, Offset is well-known for being part of Migos so the night ended with some of the group’s most popular songs like “Narcos” and “Bad and Boujee”. It may have been a weeknight but fans were ready to party all night long- the festivities certainly continued at the club long after the lights went down at the end of the show.
