Show Review: Juanes lights up Arizona Financial Theatre with hit-filled performance

“It’s been so long,” Juanes exclaimed as he finally addressed the crowd at Arizona Financial Theatre on Tuesday night. After a handful of songs, the packed venue wanted nothing more than to cheer for the Latin star.

Juanes took the stage nearly half an hour late — because of course he did — but it gave the fans plenty of time to file in and queue up their phone cameras. Based on video taking alone, there wasn’t a clear favorite in the set, and the hundreds of screens in the air looked like fireflies dancing.

The crowd was dancing, too. “Volverte a ver” and “Para tu amor” had everyone swaying, while “Ojalá” put some pep into our step. And even the gringos were singing along to “La camisa negra.”

After a main set of his own songs, a medley, and a cover of Joe Arroyo’s “La noche,” Juanes took a short reprieve before returning for a three-song encore. The fans couldn’t get enough, and they serenaded each other in tandem with Juanes until the last notes of “La luz.”
