Danish pop legends Aqua re-emerged with the massive success of the Barbie movie for their Barbie World Tour this year. The trio stopped by The Van Buren in Phoenix for an energetic show that bathed the venue in a wash of bubblegum pink for the night.
Fans of all ages flocked to the downtown area decked out in their best 90’s inspired outfits- including tons of chunky shoes, larger than life accessories and every shade of pink on the color spectrum. The group took the stage backed by their band and two background vocalists for a set that took the audience right back to a bygone era of pop music.
The trio ran through what ended up being 20 songs, including fan favorites like “Happy Boys & Girls”, the softer “Turn Back Time” and the highly requested “Lollipop (Candyman)”. Naturally, “Barbie Girl” had the loudest singing of the night- Aqua is well aware of their impact on pop culture and embraced it with every moment they spent onstage.
It was a treat to watch the 90’s come to life on a quiet Monday night, with Aqua’s sound absolutely shaking the venue, even being heard from the street outside. From kids with their parents to adults reliving a simpler time, everyone in the room threw their hands in the air like they just didn’t care- an excellent way to start this holiday week.
