Show Review: Victoria Monét shimmers at sold out Jaguar Tour stop

The Van Buren welcomed a sold out show to the jungle for Victoria Monét’s sold out Jaguar Tour this week. The multitalented performer had fans practically throwing themselves at the stage as she danced and sang her way through an impressive set in celebration of her latest album.

Ambient pop singer Ambré opened the show as the only support act for the night, strumming her guitar and wowing the audience with her powerful vocals. As the room filled up, the front section of the crowd swayed in tandem to a perfect warmup for the energy to come.

Monét emerged from the smoke onstage shrouded in a gauzy veil that she dramatically cast aside to massive cheers from an audience that (towards the front) was nearly in hysterics. Her spangled outfit caught the light, refracting the shimmer back on the room. She’s a self-professed “Big Boss” with an “Ass Like That” and not a single person disagreed.

She was joined by backup dancers and a live band for a catalog-spanning setlist that included dance breaks and samples like “Stop In the Name of Love”. Fans raised their hands and glasses to Monét during “Anytime” and “Cadillac (A Pimp’s Anthem)”. The band even got their own spotlight, jamming to “Spottie Ottie” before the set concluded with “Jaguar” and “On My Mama”.

Monét is a unique and underrated talent in the pop world, but her most recent album coupled with the masterpiece of her live show won’t keep her in that category for long. The sparkles faded from the air as the house lights went up but the sparkle stayed in fans’ eyes as they left to spread the good word from their “Experience”.
