British multihyphenate singer James Blake visited New York’s Knockdown Center last week for a soulful show that had the Queens crowd mesmerized. Sandwiched between his own extensive catalog of original tunes- based heavily in ethereal piano- Blake also included covers from Joni Mitchell, Metro Boomin and even a beautiful rendition of “Godspeed” by Frank Ocean.
Blake’s powerful vocals were the centerpiece of the night and his setlist was a stellar mix of everything fans could wish to hear. From “Life Round Here” to an extended cut of “Voyeur”, not a single listener went home unsatisfied. The night closed with “If You Can Hear Me” and “Modern Soul”- the perfect descriptor for an incredible show.
