Show Review: RBD takes Arizona on one last journey at final Soy Rebelde Tour

RBD crushed the hearts of millions of fans when they disbanded back in 2008 but dreams were realized on Tuesday night when the massively popular Mexican pop group reunited for their first of two shows in Arizona. The Soy Rebelde Tour is in full swing and both nights in Glendale sold out as fans of all ages took the incredible opportunity to see these six superstars share a stage once again.

Forgoing an opener, the group took the stage by descending on a suspended platform surrounded by flashing lights, huge video screens and a full band behind them. Anahí, Maite Perroni, Dulce María, Christopher von Uckermann and Christian Chávez outshone the stage lights with their bejeweled outfits and larger than life personalities, moving in perfect sync as the music kicked in.

The group was formed in the early 2000s as part of a telenovela but saw huge success before their later disbandment. Now, this reunion run had the group bringing out all the hits and the Arizona crowd made their love known with cheers and impossibly loud singing. The stage extended into the floor section of Desert Diamond Arena and the group made full use of this catwalk to strut their stuff and get up close and personal with each other and the fans.

From “Aún Hay Algo” to “Celestial” to the multitude of medleys, the group put each of their vocal talents in the spotlight- but it’s clear that these performers are even stronger as a unit. The music was beautiful and nostalgic but the real joy was watching all six members of the group having the time of their lives together was the best part of the night.

Each member also had individual videos that played at intervals throughout the set, showcasing their journeys and spotlighting them as artists. They were met with thunderous applause from the crowd as the wristbands distributed to all attendees lit up in unison to match the energy of the songs.

The night was a blur- costume changes, fan favorite tracks (although the omission of the ballad medley did not go unnoticed) and a stunning closer of “Nuestro Amor” and “Rebelde”. While the spirit of the show was uplifting, it’s impossible to ignore the knowledge that while this is a reunion, it’s also a farewell. Regardless of the bittersweet ending, fans spilled into the rain-soaked streets content that they had one more opportunity to catch such an incredible group.
