Show Review: Beabadoobee brings a euphoric feeling to Tucson fans

As one of the opening acts for Taylor Swift’s “The Era Tour”, Beatrice Kristi Laus- better known as BEABADOBEE- made a pit stop at Tucson’s Rialto Theatre as part of her own mini tour. The sold-out show had attendees of all ages while her 22-song setlist encapsulated her growth as a singer-songwriter that brought euphoria to her Tucson fans.

Beginning the show with “10:36” from her Beatopia album, the song was named for the time she finished writing it. This standout performance focused heavily on the song’s bridge while drawing from Laus’ inspirations and experiences.

The next few songs- “Apple Cider”, “Fairy Song”, and “Charlie Brown”- emphasized the instrumentals as the main point of the songs. What sets Laus apart from most alternative or indie rock musicians is a laidback energy that permeates her aura as a person and the music she releases.. She has the ability to write emotional lyrics backed by upbeat instrumentals, while her soft, distinctive voice provides yet another dimension to her sound.

One particularly emotional moment for both artist and fans came with a sing-along to “A Perfect Pair” in the middle of the set. Laus also found herself misty-eyed after her performance of the “Glue Song”, mentioning missing her boyfriend and their time spent together.

Towards the end of the show, Laus sat on a bar stool with her acoustic guitar to perform “Coffee”. The audience settled into the bedroom pop atmosphere created by Laus’ songs and allowed that frequency to carry them past the end of the show and into the silent Tucson streets. While this concert was just a detour from her upcoming arena dates, we hope to see her back in Arizona on her next tour.
