Show Review: Parkway Drive makes a powerful touring comeback with AZ headliner

After the touring world got put on hold, Aussie heavyweights Parkway Drive had their road time put on indefinite hold. Now it’s four years later and the boys are back with a monumental new tour, selling out Marquee Theatre this week.

Things opened up with Currents, bringing their metal-tinged rock to an already packed out room. Plenty of fans added their voices to singer Brian Wille’s screams and cheered for the band’s new song “Vengeance”. They were the perfect opening salvo for the night to come and left the stage primed for the final two bands.

Memphis May Fire provided the direct support and broke out some classics to get the crowd surfers flying over the barricade. The band performs with an aggression to match their lyrics, whipping listeners into a frenzy from wall to wall. The venue was bathed in red lights and Matty Mullins’ energy, making sure to save something for the night’s headlining act.

Winston McCall was all smiles when Parkway Drive finally took the stage to deafening cheers from an audience that’s clearly missed them. The venue seemed to shake with the intensity of the setlist- which included “Prey”, “The Void” and “Soul Bleach”.

Plenty of bodies went flying towards the stage as more and more attendees took their chance to get even closer to the band. After a fierce hour of nonstop sweat, Parkway closed their comeback night with “Crushed” and “Wild Eyes”. We were there for all the action and we’re certainly not going to miss them next time they come to town.
