Gallery: AWOLNATION’s colorful Falling Forward Tour visits Arizona

It may have been said before but AWOLNATION’s catalog is far superior to the song that made them famous. Now “Sail” is a stone cold hit (and the final song of the encore), but the band brought the house down with their energy and wild stage setup.

Badflower provided the offbeat opener for the show- an odd match for the hyped up headliner. The Marquee Theatre was bathed in red and blue light for the band’s heavy hitting set. Singer Josh Katz is maniacal onstage, screaming through “Hate Me” and the satirical incel-esque “Girlfriend”. We also got the chance to hear classics from their first album before closing out with “30”.

AWOLNATION blasted the venue with a wall of LEDs, opening their set with “Freaking Me Out” and “Soul Wars”. Fans in the crowd were equal parts dancing and standing mesmerized by the colors filling the room, and the band fed off of their energy. It’s been awhile since AWOLNATION has visited Arizona and the combination of their new music and their choice of openers made the night memorable for everyone who’s waited for their return.
