Show Review: Sabrina Carpenter shares her honest new album with Arizona audience

It’s been a stunning year for pop enthusiasts and they turned out for a sold out show at Marquee Theatre with Sabrina Carpenter on Wednesday. The former Disney Channel starlet is a musical force and, with the release of her latest album, we’re seeing even more growth in her stellar live show.

The crowd packed in tight as Girlhouse took the stage to start off a mellow evening. Lauren Luiz is also having an up and coming moment, with her touring opportunities getting bigger at every turn. She told fun anecdotes about her experiences within the music industry between songs, wore her own merch (everyone could use a Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlhouse shirt and that’s just true) and got everyone to light up the room at the end of her set.

Carpenter fashioned the stage like a cabaret, emerging from tinsel for an emotional, piano-driven intro to ‘Emails I Can’t Send”. The audience was in raptures from the first notes, hanging over the barricade, screaming the words and professing their love for the bedazzled singer.

Vocally, Carpenter is a powerhouse and really showed off her range on “Vicious” and “Tornado Warnings”. She’s very connected to her fans as well, taking a sweet moment to sit at the edge of the stage for an acoustic version of “Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying” and “Unsubscribe”.

Every show has also brought a new cover of choice and Arizona was treated to Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” before Carpenter kicked off the second half of the set. Heart shaped balloons were dropped and the fans kept singing as she closed out with “Fast Times” before returning for a two song encore.

Carpenter is making pop music in a league of her own right now and we’re looking forward to seeing what these fans already know- she’ll be shooting for the stars in no time.
