Show Review: Alec Benjamin closes out headlining tour with hometown party

Alec Benjamin’s meteoric rise showed no sign of slowing down with an energetic show at Arizona Financial Theatre this week. The pop-rock musician told his story onstage in front of an adoring audience who were ready to live those moments alongside him.

Benjamin took the stage awash in warm lights and smiling from ear to ear as he absorbed the applause from his hometown crowd. Joined by a full band, they launched into “Devil Doesn’t Bargain” and had the fans singing along as loud as they could.

The night was a blur of fan favorites- “Hill I Will Die On” and the lovely acoustic “Annabelle’s Homework” were definite highlights- and endearing anecdotes and Benjamin attempted to collect his thoughts. He stammered out a heartfelt expression of gratitude, shouted out his parents and friends who were in the room and looked back fondly on this run of The (Un)Commentary Tour.

Arizona has a deep love for Benjamin and showed it by repeating his words back to him, dancing with abandon and lighting up the room with hundreds of phone flashlights. It was an enormously special evening for both artist and fans as Benjamin closed out with his hit single “Let Me Down Slowly” before making sure to treat the room to a stellar encore.

This tour may be over but Benjamin never misses a chance to play for his hometown and we’re sure to see him back in Phoenix as soon as possible.
