It might have been a Tuesday, but it felt like The Weeknd. Thousands of fans trekked out to Phoenix’s west valley this week to see the pop star’s biggest show yet: his After Hours til Dawn tour that’s taking over stadiums nationwide. With support from Kaytranada, the evening was full of groovy beats and melodrama playing out under a glowing red moon.
After five years since his last appearance in Arizona, The Weeknd highlighted the best of After Hours and Dawn FM, the two albums the comprise this tour (the former was released in 2020, and we all know what happened afterward) plus some of the older tracks and key collabs from his extensive catalog. Reportedly an extension of his Super Bowl performance, the eerie red glow of the Gotham-like city backdrop and flowing robes of his fellow stage performers set a moody tone. But the crowd went wild anyway, dancing in their seats on every level of State Farm Stadium.
The show proved good things come to those who wait — here’s hoping the next wait isn’t so long.
