Show Review: Grabbitz warms up new tunes for tour with Tempe show

Capping off this year’s wildly successful Rock It Up concert series, Grabbitz graced the Tempe Marketplace stage on Wednesday night with some new music and breakout tracks that got the fans excited for his upcoming tour.

He set the bar high—sky high, one could say—opening with “Pigs in the Sky” and hopping off stage to dance at the barricade instead. Not one to stand still, Grabbitz took advantage of the space and even went into the crowd while his drummer held down the fort.

On the setlist: A mix of picks from his discography and covers kept everyone on their toes, and a perfectly haunting rendition of the Foo Fighters’ “Everlong” was a definite highlight. We also got “tracks 3 and 4” from Pain Killer (out next week) that have never been played in front of an audience. Raucous cheers were all the feedback needed that his new album will be well received, and now the countdown is on.

Closing with Rezz collab “Someone Else” (and certainly validating the fans who showed up in Rezz merch), Grabbitz let his hair down for the full headbanging experience while strobe lights flashed. The crowd was left breathless, cheeks flushed and all smiles. And the best news? We get to do it all over again in January.
