Show Review: Bone Thugs-N-Harmony brings concerts back with packed AZ show

Certified hip hop legends Bone Thugs-N-Harmony kicked off the Arizona summer concert season with a packed out show on Wednesday. Tempe’s Marquee Theatre saw a line down the street as eager fans flocked to the venue for a chance to leave their houses and get crazy with their favorites.

In typical rap show fashion, things started late, with Bone Thugs taking the stage roughly 30 minutes past the projected start time. Don’t let that sound like a complaint, however- the slowly filling room only upped the anticipation for their set and the room exploded with sound when they emerged.

The quartet- currently made up of Krayzie Bone, Wish Bone, Layzie Bone and Flesh-n-Bone- brought their DJ and an entourage to fill the stage for a lengthy set. As the group got the party started, one excitable attendee shouted that he’d been waiting 15 years to see them perform and they certainly didn’t disappoint. Their setlist was filled with Bone Thugs classics, while also taking interludes to pay tribute to the greats of both West and East Coast hip hop.

The show stretched into the night and the energy from the group and crowd never wavered. In a world powered increasingly by nostalgia, watching Bone Thugs perform satisfies that need while also still feeling current and fresh- but when you’ve got that much talent in one place, it would be nearly impossible to feel anything else.
