Once upon a time, people danced in the club. The synths and drum beats made them throw their hands in the air and boogie, and the lights and music exuded carefree living. That’s the basis of a Miami Horror show, a callback to simpler times with electro-pop dance music and a kaleidoscope of color.
Local pop solo project Secret Attraction opened the show, walking through low light streams and shadows and almost whispering over the dreamy back beats. Not much is available to learn about this artist, nor did he introduce himself to the audience, but he added ambiance to the room as people arrived.
The fans were grateful when argonaut&wasp took the stage to bring the energy levels back up. The Brooklyn duo is fresh off the release of their Billboard-premiered single “Saigon,” creating their own soundtrack to NYC living, and taking it around the country. Their 80s style synths and funk were the perfect match with Miami Horror, and it’s hard to say who had more fun during their set—them or the crowd.
But it’s hard to compete with an overseas band, especially when their visit is so long overdue. The Aussies of Miami Horror knew they had built hype and came out swinging. The Crescent Ballroom was soon awash in a rainbow of lights as the group grooved their way through their favorite tracks of the last decade.
Atlas joined the party and was transported many decades back—in a good way.
