Sum 41 threw it all the way back to mark the 15th anniversary of Chuck on Sunday. The band was joined by The Plot in You and The Amity Affliction for a heavier show than fans have been used to in recent years. The mosh and circle pits were raging and fans from all genres packed Tempe’s Marquee Theatre for an energetic evening.
The Plot in You and The Amity Affliction opened the night with their own unique brands of hardcore. Fans decked in each band’s merch jumped and screamed, while the pit opened up several times to really warm up the room. The Amity Affliction leaned heavily into their stellar three-part vocals and harmonies for a set that raised the bar for the rest of the night.
With over 20 years of music under their collective belts, Sum 41 is both releasing killer new songs and celebrating albums past on their Order in Decline Tour. Named for their latest album, the band played plenty of songs from the record, whipping fans into a frenzy for the appropriately-titled “Out for Blood” and showering them in confetti and effects throughout the set.
Classics like “Motivation” and “In Too Deep” prompted the loudest singing of the night and ardent fans kept security busy with the set’s endless crowdsurfers. Not wanting to leave anything behind, Sum 41 played two encores, including “Never There”, “Fat Lip” and “Pain for Pleasure” to close out a wild and celebratory show.
