Gallery: Third Eye Blind and Jimmy Eat World throw it back for nostalgia-filled Arizona show

Two powerhouse rock acts from the 90’s brought the Summer Gods Tour to Arizona last week. Third Eye Blind was joined by Jimmy Eat World for an epic evening of nostalgia, while also looking towards new music and more years with each band.

Arguably the biggest band to come out of Arizona, Jimmy Eat World’s hometown crowd did not let them down. Coming out early and in droves, fans sang it back to classics like “Sweetness” and “Big Casino”. The band also brought out tracks from their latest album, Integrity Blues, and delighted the audience by announcing a new album coming in October.

The beautifully powerful “Hear You Me” had cell phone lights flashing and fans swaying before closing with rock staple “The Middle”.

Third Eye Blind surprised a packed pavilion with their considerable production. In a nod to acts like The 1975 and Thirty Seconds to Mars, the band lit up the stage with massive video screens, fog and flashing lights. Naturally, all the hits were played (“Graduate” and “Jumper”, anyone?) but the night’s gem was a special performance of the little-played “Motorcycle Drive By”.

Third Eye Blind captivated their crowd for 18 songs, closing (of course) with “Semi-Charmed Life” and “Losing a Whole Year”. Nostalgia was high, the fans were excited and the night ended on a level of happiness that beat the Arizona heat.
