Gallery: Black Pistol Fire and Thunderpussy set Phoenix ablaze with gritty rock ‘n’ roll

Gritty rock ‘n’ roll has been making a strong comeback lately—thank god—and a number of artists are leading the charge. On the agenda: rock isn’t dead. That’s what Black Pistol Fire and Thunderpussy were out to prove on Tuesday night at Phoenix’s Crescent Ballroom, setting the venue ablaze in red light and loud guitar. Taking the early slot, Seattle group Thunderpussy emerged in full glitter to rip through cuts from their eponymous album and some choice covers. Vocalist Molly Sides exclaimed the band had family members in the crowd, and she was excited about both that and the tequila that fueled her. The crowd was similarly warmed up after a few drinks and a set that exuded retro energy, ready for Black Pistol Fire. And the duo delivered. Minimal production and stage setup kept the focus on the bluesy, dirty rock that has gotten them so much praise from critics and talent buyers around the country.

Atlas was there to revel in the rebelliousness. Check out our photos from the show!
